The Sejm Sermons (Polish: Kazania sejmowe) is a set of eight political sermons written by the Polish Jesuit Piotr Skarga and published in 1597, addressed to the nobles of the Polish–Lithuanian Sejm. Skarga warned that factionalism, weak central authority, and the erosion of civic responsibility among the nobility would eventually destroy the Commonwealth — a warning that later generations of Poles came to read as strikingly prophetic of the partitions that followed nearly two centuries later.
Despite its lasting influence on Polish political and literary thought, the work has never before been translated into English. This edition is the first.
